What is Roled?
Roled is a centralized platform for managing users, roles, and permissions across multiple applications. Instead of rebuilding user management for every project, your applications connect to Roled as a shared service.
Is Roled an identity provider or SSO?
No. Roled is not an identity provider or SSO solution. Each project has its own users and roles. Users of one project do not automatically become users of another project. Roled focuses on removing repetitive work in building user and role management for individual projects.
Can I use my own authentication system?
Yes. With Bring Your Own Users (BYOU), authentication remains entirely in your application. Roled only stores role assignments and permissions using your application's external user ID.
Do I have to migrate my existing users?
No. If you already have an existing user database, you can keep it. Simply register users in Roled using their external user IDs.
Do I have to use OAuth2?
Only if you choose the Fully Managed Users model. When using Bring Your Own Users (BYOU), authentication is handled entirely by your own system. OAuth2 is provided as a standard authentication method.
